Privacy & cookies

This blog is written and run by Sergio Teran (“I”), who is responsible for the data described here. You can reach me at sergiotm87@gmail.com.
What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as the browser’s local storage, work the same way and are covered by this policy too.
What this blog stores
| Name | Who sets it | Purpose | Duration | Needs consent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics (third party) | Tells visitors apart to count visits | 13 months | Yes |
_ga_JD2MWCMBBB | Google Analytics (third party) | Keeps track of the current visit (session) | 13 months | Yes |
kammin:consent (local storage) | This blog | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics | 24 months | No (technical) |
theme (local storage) | This blog | Remembers light or dark mode | Until you clear it | No (technical) |
Google Analytics only loads after you click Accept in the cookie banner. If you reject, or never answer, no analytics code runs and no analytics cookies are set. I use it to count visits and see which posts get read. Google Signals and ad personalization are turned off, but Google may also use this data for its own purposes; see how Google uses information from sites that use its services .
Comments use Giscus , which loads an iframe from giscus.app and talks to the GitHub API when you reach the comments section. Like any web request, this sends your IP address and browser details to those services. If you sign in with GitHub to comment, Giscus keeps that session in your browser. Comments are a feature you choose to use, so they don’t depend on the cookie banner.
Embedded videos from YouTube are not loaded until you press play. Then the player loads from youtube-nocookie.com and other Google domains, which receive your IP address and browser details and can store data in your browser; see Google’s privacy policy . Playing a video is a feature you choose to use, so it doesn’t depend on the cookie banner.
Accept, reject or change your mind
- Use the Accept or Reject buttons in the banner. Both are equally easy, and the blog works the same either way.
- To change your choice at any time, click Cookie settings in the footer. If you withdraw consent, the
_gacookies are deleted and the page reloads so Google Analytics stops running. - You can also delete cookies and site data from your browser settings.
Your choice is remembered for 24 months, after which you’ll be asked again. You’ll also be asked again if the cookies or third parties described here change.
Legal basis, transfers and retention
- Legal basis: your consent (Article 6.1.a GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time. Withdrawing it doesn’t affect data sent before.
- International transfers: Google LLC may process this data in the United States. Google is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Commission Decision (EU) 2023/1795).
- Retention: cookies last as listed above. Google Analytics keeps event-level data for the retention period set in the property (2 months by default); aggregated reports are kept longer.
Your rights
You can ask for access, rectification, erasure, restriction, objection and portability of your data by writing to sergiotm87@gmail.com. Google Analytics data is pseudonymous: to find yours, include the value of your _ga cookie (your browser’s developer tools show it under cookies for this site), and I’ll use Google Analytics’ user deletion to erase it. Rejecting or withdrawing consent stops any further collection. If you think your data is not handled properly, you can file a complaint with the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD ).
